Get your fortune cookie (or create your own) and learn about all crazy things like open source food, yahoo grids, google speaks every language, hippies…filthy, dirty hippies. Just kidding. I love me some hippie. Peace and love this weekend. Enjoy!
Open Source Food - If you’re getting bored with your normal fare and want to treat your taste buds to something new, check out the culinary answer to the open source movement. I suppose with any open source repository, there are some recipes for kitchen noobs such as the “baked sweet potato” and Sir Spam-alot, but I should point out the Mujaddara, which is at the top of my to-eat list.
Yahoo Grids - A few weeks ago I posted Khoi Vinh’s great tutorial on Grid-based design. He redesigned Yahoo’s site in his tutorial. Well, Yahoo has an entire grid-based CSS template that is easy to use and will have you designers gridding from ear to ear.
Air Car - I really want one of these. How much do you want to bet they will not be available in the U.S. until hell freezes over?
Facebook Opens up Platform - I’ve always said that MySpace’s closed nature may give them control in the short-term, but if they don’t start thinking like Facebook, they WILL lose their userbase. But Facebook will need the music/media factor before it’s coitens for MySpace.
The Burgomeister’s Books: E-book Library - Project Gutenberg is great, but as the site owner, Burgomeister, says, it’s missing the entire scope of late 20th century literature. Luckily, Burgomeister is willing to lend you his ebooks, so long as you return them when you’re done (i.e., delete them). Feed your head.
The Hippies Were Right! Green homes? Organic food? Nature is good? Time To Give The Ol’ Tie-Dyers Some Respect - And speaking of feeding your head, it’s been a long, strange trip, but good ideas from the counter culture are finally being embraced by the mainstream.
Google Translate - Totally awesome. Me gusta!
The Next Breakthrough - Command Lines - an interesting article I found via the awesome Scribd website. Are GUI’s becoming so complex that the command line is now more productive? I don’t know because its been awhile since I had my head deep into an emacs terminal way back when I wrote Perl. I tell ya what though, once you start doing it everyday it’s much, much more productive than a dumbed down GUI.
10 flagrant grammar mistakes that make you look stupid - umm…I’m guilty of i.e. vs e.g. and probably a lot more than what’s found in this ten. And yes, it’s on my list of things to focus on improving this year.
UnFortunate - your online fortune cookie view, create, share, and print website. Just what you always needed but never knew.
