Juxtaviews is not a blog. Although we’re part of a blog network, Juxtaviews doesn’t cut it when considering the definition found on Wikipedia. Why not? Because we’re not a journal. In fact, most “blogs” I read each day aren’t really blogs. And if you read Juxtaviews chances are you read TechCrunch, Mashable, and Center Networks. Blogs? Nope, they aren’t blogs either. Somewhere along the line the term “blog” and news site got blurred. I miss blogging - real blogging. Real blogging is personal. That’s how you tell a blog, from a news site. And that’s why I love Tumblr - it makes being personal easy.
Ok, maybe it’s not “real” blogging, this is real blogging (and amazing writing), but it’s micro-blogging which seems to be all the rage these days. Forget the micro-blogging hype though, Tumblr is what you make of it. And if you have any yearning to broadcast tidbits about your life or your life on the web, then Tumblr is the one app you should use because Tumblr does it right. How? Because it makes me want to participate. It’s so easy to use, and already very customizable, that I almost can’t not blog (double negative I know).
What I like about tumblr is that it forces me to be concise (which I’m obviously not good at) and it acts, essentially, as my web stream of conscious is short form. I add photos I come across or post myself. I’ll post videos that make me laugh or that educate me. I’ll post my favorites links I’m finding and tell you why I’m posting about them. I’ll randomly link to a band’s myspace page that is currently on my winamp player. It’s what I’m doing, it’s what I’m listening to, it’s what I’m reading, etc. Add the fact that the design and interface are so easy to use - and we got a winner.
Another thing I like about Tumblr. Say you’re a big delicious fan or flickr fan (or whatever fan, as long as it has an rss feed you’re AOK), you can easily add your feeds to your tumblr account and it will dynamically retrieve the content and publish it onto your tumblr page. Nice, right?
Ok, enough pining over Tumblr. If you want to read my personal tumble, check out my Tumblr account at juxtanews. I’m not the only one digging this site now. Gina from LifeHacker wrote a post about why she’s enjoying Tumblr. Webware also recently wrote an excellant write-up about the service, and I think it’s pretty much dead on.
