This week we’ve got a roundup of lots of great utilities, from calculating your keg count to consolidating your club and membership cards. And when your through with such “work”, we also rounded up some comic relief and entertaining ways to get your couch-potato bliss on.
Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! - Tim and Eric have a show on Adult Swim, it’s pretty funny. They also recently updated their MySpace page with a bunch of clips and a tour diary.
SuperDeluxe - A great new site for comedy.
Vidmeter.com - Check out the most popular videos on the web. Seems a lot cooler than viralvideos.com (which I mentioned awhile back).
Google Being Sued by Viacom - Viacom is suing Google and its video-sharing platform YouTube for “massive intentional copyright infringement” of Viacom’s entertainment properties.
Good Reads - A social networking site for people who like books.
Vonage Plans Workarounds for Patent Loss - This one hits a little close to home. A federal jury ruled that Vonage must pay $58 million to Verizon in a patent infringement lawsuit. Vonage’s continued survival may hinge on whether it can produce a non-infringing workaround able to keep subscribers talking while satisfying Verizon and the court.
Mozilla password exploit still around - Mozilla says they fixed the flaw, a security research expert disagrees.
Consumerist.com - This consumer information site is a mix of gawker, life hacker, engadget and ben’s bargains and it’s kind of right up my alley.
Smartpox - “Bar codes for the web”. Smartpox is a mobile viral messaging application that allows you to create and share links, phone numbers, email, and text using 2D barcodes and your Java-enabled camera phone. I don’t know, kind of hard to describe without actually checking out the site.
Ode to Dwight Schrute - if you’re a fan of The Office (the US version) then you’ll be happy to own this puppy. Other characters are available as well. Side note - I love Etsy. Great site, great idea, great implementation.
Telecommuting Now and Forever - “Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine set the goal of having 20% of the state’s workforce telecommuting by 2010.” - a discussion of whether or not this is a good or bad thing.
Improve Your Blog’s Reach With These 20 Essential Web Utilities - Phil Haack delivers once again. A solid roundup of great tools.
10 ways to improve your sleep… Or not - Another blog I found via my MDA side project. Good read for those of you neglecting your Zzzzzs, and relates all too close to my own life.
SnoopStick - SnoopStick is a USB flash drive type device that allows you to monitor what your kids, employees, or anyone using your computer is doing while on the Internet. And, you can monitor them live, in real time, from anywhere in the world.
The Forbes Fictional 15 - Put all of your different membership and club cards onto just one card!
The Geek’s Guide to Getting Free Stuff - A guide with 95 ways to get free or cheaper books, gadgets, conference passes, vacations and software.
Kegulator - If you’re planning a St. Patty’s Day party this weekend, you may want to crunk… I mean crunch your numbers through the Kegulator.
eJamming - Who has the time to check all this stuff out? I do intend to try eJamming. Many of my musical collaborators are scattered throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. The one rub is that everyone needs midi instruments. Drums and keys are relativley easy to “midi-fy”. Most instruments, however, are sadly left out without investing in expensive and often “dodgy” gear.
Aesthetic Apparatus - The best silkscreened concert posters since the 60’s! These guys are incredibly talented and have taken up the silkscreened poster reins where Stanley “Mouse” Miller, Rick Griffin, and Alton Kelly left off (minus the psychedelics).
Most Recent Photos Added to LiveJournal - Gives you literal snapshots of photos uploaded to LiveJournal. It seems like a random amalgamation of different people’s lives stripped of commentary. It’s strangely addicting.
Ira Glass On Storytelling - One of my favorite radio personalities gives the lowdown on how to tell a compelling story. This is essential viewing for all, because everyone loves a story and everyone has at a lifetime of stories in them. He explains that even the most mundane events can be delivered as a compelling story based on how you tell it.
Simple T.V. Guide - This is just a simple T.V. guide that’s configurable to your location/cable provider. I like how it works and it tells you what programs are new.
Jamendo - Another “free” music archive. Looks promising. Feedback welcome.
