This week I’m feeling the DIY vibe. Also, our very own Shaun Ellis gets a few friendly links from an admiring fan of his band The High Hearts. What’s more punk rock than a DIY trip into space, a great Ska-music podcast myspace page, and a bluegrass/folk/punk band? Not much, not much at all.
DIY Reupolstering - Mafe Maria and her great blog (a true “blog” mind you) keeps it real in this interesting blog post about her experience reupolstering her sofa chair.
DIY Space Voyage - Rocketboom features Bre Pettis’s and the MakeZine’s attempt to get into space on their own. Very, very cool. I’m constantly in awe of these guys and would love to have a job like this - where I’d get to build things and play all day.
SwissMiss - I’m a design wannabe. I love everything about a well made product. Simple and functional…that’s beauty. I’ve subscribed to Dwell Magazine for years just to feed my wanna-be architect/designer side of me. But the truth of it is, whether its a spoon or a house, the beauty is in the product not the size of the project. Anyway, i’m kinda rambling along here. SwissMiss is a great blog about all things design related… and no, not web design. One of these days I’ll create a nice long post about all my favorite design sites… one of these days.
The High Hearts - Juxtaviews very own Shaun Ellis rocks out. The High Hearts is a two person bluegrass,folk rock band. Shaun is one of the most creative people I know, and the HH are another great example of his talents. Give me another guitar solo shaun!
Who Needs Google? - seems like other people are using delicious just like I do as well.
Make Things - the team behind the rocketboom link above run MakeZine, which is a great site from a bunch of brilliant people just hacking away at making things in true DIY style. Love this site.
Ska Is Your Friend - I came across this site via the homepage of MillionDollarAvatar and I can’t stop listening. My first ska show was 13 years ago when I saw Less Than Jake play a hole-in-the-wall place called The Pipeline in Newark, NJ. I fell in love immediately. I’ve skanked hard many time in my life… makes me laugh thinking about really. Man those were fun times. I’d still go at it again…maybe if the PieTasters came around…but it would hurt the next day. I’d also need some octane to get me going…nothing me and Mr Tequila couldn’t work out.
